Omar Khayyam Club London – new website

August 24, 2013

For many years, we and other people have been asking what has happened to the London-based Omar Khayyam Club.  Now this question can be quickly answered by reference to the Club’s new website, to be found on www.omar-khayyam-club.com.  The new website tells us that ‘The Omar Khayyam Club was founded in 1890 and today meets regularly every year in March and November for celebratory dinners at the Savile Club, London.’  There are also contact details for the Club secretary, and other information will be coming to the site in due course.  Meanwhile those who are interested to find out more about the history of this and the other Omar Khayyam Clubs in different countries can refer to a valuable article on the Dutch Omariana web site, http://www.omarkhayyamnederland.com/omariana/omar-khayyam-clubs/index.html.

I have a plaster copy of a clay plaque, a portrait of O.K. by Frederick Warren Allen as seen in the 1921 publication of “Twenty years of the Omar Khayyam club of America, 1921.” Whom should I contact about this? I’d like to put the information on my web site.

Hello Christine. Can you specify a bit more what you want – information about Frederick Warren Allen, about the OK club of America, about the book, or all three? If you can tell us a bit more, and perhaps send a photo of the plaque, then we could put your request in a separate post which might produce more reaction. As far as we know the OK Club of America no longer exists, but that needs further checking.

The Omar Khayyam Cliub of London is using an out-of-date URL in their CONTACT section. Does anyone here know the correct address? Is the Omar Khayyam Club of London still in existence?

Thank you for alerting us all to these problems. We can confirm that the Omar Khayyam Club of London does still exist but also that the contact on their web site does not work. We now understand that the secretary of the Club can be contacted via the following link: roger@rogerblackconsultancy.com.

The American club is defunct as far as we know, but there is an active club in the Netherlands – for more details see http://omariana.nl/ . On that web site there is a section giving the history and status of the various clubs. It is worth looking at.
