Celebrate Omar Khayyam’s 964th birthday!

May 18, 2012

Today, 18th May 2012, is the 964th anniversary of the birth of the historical Omar Khayyam.  The famous, astronomer, mathematician and philosopher was born on this day in 1048 in the city of Nishapur, now in eastern Persia.  Whether or not he wrote any of the many verses (rubaiyat) attributed to him, his name will always be associated with them, and his life is worth cherishing in any event.  So please share this anniversary, and raise an appropriate glass in honour of Khayyam’s birthday.

There is another happy conjunction of the dates. On Thursday, the 17th I recorded yet another rendering of the poem, and on Friday the 18th, I was able to conclude that I finally had the ‘take’ I’ve been looking for for the better part of two years. So now, the way is clear ahead to have the CD in hand before the end of June. Yet another cause for hoisting a glass. And you, my Omar friends, should have the CD not too long after taht.

Congratulations, David. That is a great milestone passed. We look forward to seeing the results.
